Who is eligible for the Xcel Energy Refrigerator Recycling program?
Residential ratepayers who receive electrical service from Xcel Energy in Colorado may place an order to have their refrigerators and/or freezers picked up to be recycled.
Participating customers must be the owner of the refrigerator or freezer being recycled.
What appliances are eligible for pickup to be recycled?
Refrigerators and freezers that meet capacity requirements of 10-30 cubic ft. Mini-Fridges typically do not meet the minimum capacity requirement.
Window or room AC units are eligible for pickup alongside a full-size residential refrigerator or freezer pickup. Window or room AC units are not eligible for incentive rebates.
Your appliance must be in working order (e.g., cooling and/or freezing and the ability to make ice).
Refrigerators and freezers must have been manufactured in 2021 or earlier.
Are there any participation limits?
Residential ratepayers who receive electric service from Xcel Energy in Colorado may schedule up to four 10-30 cubic ft capacity refrigerators or freezers picked up per calendar year.
Is my mini-fridge eligible for the program?
Mini fridges do not typically meet the minimum capacity requirement for eligibility and are not accepted as an add-in even when participating with a full-size (10-30 cu ft) refrigerator or freezer. Please check the storage capacity prior to scheduling.
Where can the appliance(s) be located when they are picked up?
The following locations are eligible for indoor pickup: basement, kitchen, main level, other indoor locations.
The following locations are eligible for outdoor pickup: garage, curb, driveway, backyard, other outside locations.
Elevator access is required if the refrigerator or freezer unit is located above a second floor.
We reserve the right to decline pickup for any appliance whose removal will put our team, the customer or the home at risk.
Do I have to be home for a pickup?
If the unit is within the home, someone over the age of 18 must be present to release the appliance.
If the unit is not within the home, it must be on the residential ratepayer’s property. If you do not expect to be present when the unit is picked up, please attach a note to the appliance that says, "I allow the Xcel Energy Refrigerator Recycling team to remove this appliance."
Am I eligible for an indoor pickup if I live in a condominium or apartment?
Yes, elevator access is required if the unit is located above the second floor.
Participating customers must be the owner of the refrigerator or freezer being recycled.
How should I prepare for my appliance(s) pickup?
The appliance(s) need to be empty.
The appliance(s) must be free of food and mold.
There needs to be a clear path for appliance removal.
If inside, the appliance must be disconnected from the water line.
Pets must be crated or removed during appointments even if they are friendly.
Why does my fridge need to be cleaned out prior to pick up?
Cleaning out your fridge helps protect workers, ensures safe and effective recycling, and avoids contamination or environmental damage.
The presence of mold adds additional safety risks for our team members.
We reserve the right to decline pickup for any appliance whose removal will put our team, the customer or the home at risk.
What if my appliance is in a basement?
Appliances located in basements are eligible for pickup. They must be dedicated refrigerators, freezers, or refrigerators with a freezer on top. All other types must be brought to the main floor by the customer.

What are the program’s pet policies?

I don’t live in the Denver-Metro area, but I have Xcel Energy service, and I want to schedule an appliance pickup. What do I do?
If you're outside the Denver/Boulder area but use Xcel Energy for electricity, call 888-356-7660 to schedule or be added to our waitlist for pickup. Note: We don’t serve Summit County or the Western Slope in winter due to weather; spring scheduling is available for those areas.
What do I do if I do not see dates available to schedule an appointment?

How do I request to have the rebate check sent to a different address than the pickup address?
When scheduling online, select “Other” for “Who is receiving the rebate” and enter correct name and address.

How much will my rebate be?
Rebates are issued per eligible appliance picked up; there is a participation limit of 4 appliances max per customer per calendar year.
$50 per eligible appliance picked up.
How will I receive my rebate?
Rebates are issued via check in the mail to the account holder unless otherwise noted by the customer.
Checks can take 4-6 weeks to receive by mail following your completed pickup.
Who will be picking up my appliance(s)?
Xcel Energy partners with CLEAResult, Xcel Energy’s trusted third-party vendor. CLEAResult is the single largest provider of energy efficiency solutions in North America.
